LEVEL 1 CHIMNEY INSPECTION
Same fuel, same appliance, same intended usage
- Check audit trail – certificate of compliance, data plates, previous service records
- Inspect exterior from the ground
- Inspect appliance and installation for safety and compliance
- Dismantle the appliance
- Clean the chimney
- Examine debris
- Reassemble the appliance
- Type 2 smoke test to check evacuation
- Check air ventilation, CO alarm and fuel
- Report findings
Repairs arising from this inspection must be completed before the chimney and appliance are used.
LEVEL 2 CHIMNEY INSPECTION
Failures or faults on Level 1 chimney inspection that can not be successfully identified
Change of fuel, appliance or intended use
Change of ownership/tenancy
Catastrophic event such as chimney fire, house fire or a structural refurbishment
At the request of EHO, LABC, Insurance company
- All operations in a Level 1 chimney inspection unless they have been done recently
- Inspect complete exterior from roof/ladder/scaffold/adjoining properties
- Type 1 smoke test or leakage test
- Full camera inspection
- Recommission appliance provided the chimney and appliance are usable and measure flue draft
- Report findings
Repairs arising from this inspection must be completed before the chimney and appliance are used.
LEVEL 3 CHIMNEY INSPECTION
Failures or faults on Level 2 chimney inspection that can not be successfully identified
At the request of EHO, LABC, Insurance company
- All operations on Level 1 and 2 chimney inspections unless they have been done recently
- Remove register where fitted
- Removing boxing or covering around chimney where fitted
- Remove terminal and/or chimney pot
- Make opening into chimney for identification of faults
- Any destructive access to check the installation is safe and compliant
- Report findings
Repairs arising from this inspection must be completed before the chimney and appliance are used.
