German Silver is a copper alloy of nickel & zinc, it does not actually contain any silver.
The name "German Silver" refers to its discovery by 19th Century German Industrial Chemist E A Geitner.
Early in the 20th Century German Silver was used by car manufacturers before the introduction of steel sheet metal e.g. the famous Rolls-Royce "Silver Ghost" of 1907.
